As part of the Masonic Charitable Foundation annual grants to hospices nationwide, Huddersfield’s Kirkwood (£1584), Forget Me Not (£1173) and Overgate at Elland (£988) were presented with cheques by APGM Alan Elstone and Area charity chairman Gerry Dickinson.
The three hospices also received £880 each from the trustees of the former Thornhill Lodge No 1514 which handed in its Warrant last year. Hospice representatives Debs Davies (Forget Me Not), Laura Whitham (Overgate) and Kathryn Box are pictured with, from left, John Gledhill (PCC and Thornhill), David Mann, Thornhill, Gerry Dickinson, Trevor Wilkinson (Area Two charity committee) and Alan Elstone. Debs spoke for all three hospices when she said that donations from the Freemasons were especially welcome and always much appreciated. “State funding provides only a small percentage of the money we need to maintain what are vital services in the community. This is why every penny counts for each of us in donations large or small.” Following Bro. Adam Douglas's wheelchair 10k event earlier in the year he waited until after the Pilgrim Lodge 7728 Installation to present a cheque to Assistant Provincial Grand Master W Bro. Roger D Newhouse. Adam raised £2,302.50

Firstly may I make a correction to my last newsletter when I stated that Lifelites is a part of MCF. Lifelites is in fact an independent charity supported by MCF, and indeed WRMCL, and have their offices in Great Queen Street. My thanks to W Bro. John Gledhill for spotting that. New Area Manager We welcome a new Area Manager to the Provincial Charity Committee. W Bro. John Sharman took over from W Bro. Alan Griffin as Manager of Area 1 at their meeting at Baildon on the 4th December. We congratulate John on his appointment and welcome him to the team. I am sure John will have the support of the whole of Area 1 and of the Provincial team. At the same time we would thank Alan for his many years of service as a Charity Steward, as a PCA and as Area 1 Manager and wish him well for the future. PGM’s Fund The closing date for this round of applications to the PGM’s fund has now passed and I understand there have been a pleasing number submitted this time. May I thank all of you for your applications and wish you well with them. Charity accounts Further to my request in September for Charity Stewards to submit a copy of their accounts to their PCA, it has been decide that responsibility for ensuring accounts are presented to the Lodge should remain with the Lodge and so your PCA no longer requires a copy. However rule 153 does require that Lodge accounts and Charity accounts, if separate, are presented to the Lodge no more than 3 meetings after the account end date. Annual Stats forms Many thanks to all of you who have completed and returned your stats forms. We are still a few short of the 100% so if you have not yet returned your form please do so as soon as you can and if you require assistance filling it in or need a new form please contact your PCA. Charity Stewards Briefings Area 1 – 2nd April 2019 – Hoyle Court – John E Sharman Area 2 – 11th March 2019 – Greenhead – Trevor Wilkinson Area 3 – 19th January 2019 – Westbourne House – Douglas Mills Area 4 – 16th March 2019 – Tapton Hall – Alan Hey Area 4 – 30th March 2019 – Priory Place, Doncaster – Alan Hey Area 5 – 7th March 2019 – Morley – David Gray Brethren, if at all possible please attend your Area Briefing as we have the support of a number of interesting and relevant speakers and it is an opportunity to discuss any matters of concern with your PCA’s and fellow Charity Stewards. Yorkshire West Riding Activities Ltd The Remembrance Day ties were seen in abundance during November with a total of 1075 being sold throughout the Province, providing a profit of £2,200.00 that has been passed to the Royal British Legion. Thank you to all who have purchased ties and to Jim Steele of YWRMAL for the very efficient way he distributed the orders. If you missed out this year, I am sure there will be another opportunity next November. Hospice Grants The annual hospice grants have now been sent to each of the hospices in your areas and arrangements are in hand to make official presentations. If you can, please support your Area Manager and PCAs on the day. The essential work that the hospices do cannot be too highly praised and our visits and our support are very much appreciated. WRMCL AGM Saturday 23rd March at the Holiday Inn Barnsley is the date and venue of the next WRMCL AGM. The AGM offers the opportunity to hear how Our Charity distributes the donations we have made and how, in our name, they support the communities in our Province. All are welcome and this year the speakers will include 2 previous recipients of Major Grant awards which should prove very enlightening. Finally may I on behalf of the Provincial Charity team thank you for the hard work you have put in on behalf of Masonic Charity throughout the year and wish you and your families a very happy and peaceful Christmas and New Year.
