V.W. Bro. John Boyington, CBE
Promoted to Past Grand Sword Bearer
John was appointed as Deputy PGM last March and Installed in April 2019 in succession to V.W. Bro. Stuart Grantham who had to retire due to ill health.
Initiated in 1994 in St Philip’s Lodge in Sheffield John took the Chair in 2002. He became a member of Lodge of South Yorkshire in 1996 (WM 2004),
John was Exalted into St Philip’s Chapter in 1997 and joined West Riding Acting Officers Lodge in 2011 (WM 2014) after serving as Provincial Grand Standard Bearer in 2009.
He was appointed Provincial Senior Grand Warden in 2014 and Acting Junior Grand Deacon in 2016 and proposed the re-election of the MW The Grand Master in our Tercentenary year, 2017 after which he was appointed Acting Senior Grand Deacon before becoming APGM for Area 4 the same year.
John was Inspector General of the Rose Croix in this District for 7 years before being appointed to The Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Rite in 2019 where he currently holds the office of Grand Treasurer General. The first ever appointment of a Yorkshire, West Riding Mason to this prestigious body.
John chaired this Provinces’ RMBI Festival from 2011 to 2017 and has been a Trustee of the RMBI since 2013 and Vice Chairman of its Board since 2017. He was appointed a founding Trustee of the Masonic Charitable Foundation in 2016 where he now serves as Chair of the Charitable Grants Committee. John spent his professional career working in the NHS and Civil Service before retiring in 2012. He was awarded the CBE in 2007 for services to health. He still chairs 2 GP companies, one in Sheffield and one in Greater Manchester.
John is a keen supporter and season ticket holder at Sheffield United with his grandson and they are enjoying the clubs current resurge
