Pathfinder Lodge no 8236 was host to the Kindred Lodges Association’s (KLA) Autumn Festival on Saturday the 22nd September at Tapton.

The KLA was formed in 1952 to facilitate and foster relationships among Freemasons who are or were involved in Youth Work. The prime activity, other than encouraging inter Lodge visiting, is to hold two Festival meetings each year.

Some 100 Brethren welcomed the ever energetic and appreciative Provincial Grand Master RW Bro. David, Pratt, attended by his DC, Standard Bearer, Sword Bearer. (See Photo above of PGM and WM of Pathfinder W.Bro. Steve Hides.) Senior and Junior Warden as they entered the lodge room accompanied by a number of Grand Lodge officers. The distinguished masons in attendance included PPDep.GM. Jack Piggott, VW Bro Frankland (London), W.Bro. Alan Hurdley PAGDC and the Secretary from the KLA. W.Bro. Hughes.

In the Lodge room W.Bro. Christopher Powell a PM of Royal Brunswick Lodge 296 gave a very interesting and informative lecture on Masonic artefacts and what they tell us. –Tracing Boards, Aprons, Jewels, Lodge Lists, Books of Constitutions, Old Charges, and other Masonic artefacts were viewed to see what story they had to tell us about Freemasonry in general and its history in particular.

W.Bro. Powell’s lecture was very professionally presented and informative with many examples to touch and hold, and was well received by all.

Just prior to the closing of the lodge the W.M. handed over the ceremonial tile to W. Bro. Tony Harvey as representative of Walesby Lodge, the next hosts in 2019. (Attached photo shows the WM, the PGM, W.Bro. Tony Harvey the UK Secretary of the KLA, with the tile and mascot Dobbie.)

After the Lodge meeting brethren sat down to an excellent 3 course meal followed by coffee. (See Photo) The PGM was presented with a KLA neckerchief by the WM. Steve Hides and during wine taking they PGM took wine with Brethren who had gained their Queen’s Scout Award a first at these festival meetings confirming the closeness of Scouting and Freemasonry.

Yes our PGM is a Queen’s Scout!
The Queen's Scout Award is the top achievement for scouts.

Following the singing of Happy Have we met brethren departed home many travelling far and wide, even to Norway.

The Pathfinder Lodge celebrates its 50th anniversary this year on 5th October.

The R W Provincial Grand Master, as President of WRMCL presented a cheque for £10,000.00 to Simone Enefer-Doy, CEO of Lifelites when she visited our Province on a fund raising tour.

Lifelites is a part of MCF and provides specialist technology for children in every children’s hospice across the British Isles.

MCF has made a grant of £60,000.00 to Cavendish Cancer Care in Sheffield

A cheque presentation will take place at the Tim Pryor Centre on Wednesday 17th October at 11.30am.

MCF has also made a grant of £4,000.00 to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. This has been matched by WRMCL with a further £4,000.00 from the Province of Yorkshire North and East Ridings and will be handed over in a joint presentation.

Coming up to date, the autumn round of PGM’s Fund applications has just closed on the 8th September and we await the deliberations of the Board.

Good luck to all who have submitted an application.

There are many worthy causes out there who could benefit greatly from a grant from the PGM’s Fund and the Provincial Grand Master is very keen that we identify these causes and offer our assistance.

New Website
By now I am sure you will all have been on to the new Provincial website and delved into the various sections.

We are indebted to our new webmaster who has worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth change over on the 3rd September.

All of the Charity Stewards information is there under the CHARITY heading with the Manual, guidance information and all of the documents you will need available from the GUIDANCE NOTES box.

Should you have any problems accessing the information you need please contact your PCA who will be pleased to explain the process.

Media coverage

Yorkshire West Riding have been at the top of the national UGLE league table for the last 3 months and in order to remain there it is important that any newsworthy  events should be reported by Charity Stewards to their Liaison Officers so that they can be passed to the Communications Committee.

Anything of media interest should also be passed to David Simister, the Communications Manager.

Yorkshire West Riding Masonic Activities Limited

Sales of the Remembrance tie have now topped 600 with all of the profits being given to the British Legion. However additional ties are on order so it is not too late to support this worthy cause. And remember our fallen.

Lodge Charity Accounts.

For many of us the end of September sees the end of the financial year.

At present it is not required that yearend financial statements are sent to Province but I would ask that all Charity Stewards send a copy of their annual statement to their PCA as it is important that records are kept up to date.

It is still required that the financial statement is presented to your Lodge no later than 3 months after the end of the financial period.

Could all PCAs ask to be put on the list to receive a copy of the summons for each of his Lodges so that he is aware of when the accounts are to be presented.

Annual Stats forms

The annual Stats forms should be with you very shortly, if not already.

This information is important in providing an understanding of what is happening with regard to charity matters at Lodge level.

Most of the information is already on the forms and the remaining info should be readily available.

Please return these forms to your PCA as soon as you can but no later than the end of November. Thank you.

Annual Charity Briefings 2019

These are already being planned and will be designed around the needs of your area and will provide adequate time for questions and answers, and general discussion.
However core subjects will be covered in all 5 areas with updates on MCF, by either VW Bro Jack Pigott or VW Bro; John Rushworth, Choices by Peter Worth and a brief outline on preparing a PGM’s Fund application by W Bro. Ian Wright the fund administer.

Our briefings are a good time to share experiences with other Charity Stewards and your PCAs.

I would urge all Charity Stewards to attend if they possibly can.

The following dates have been confirmed:-

Area 1- 2nd April 2019
Area 5 - 7th March 2019

The next meeting of the Provincial Charity Committee will be on Tuesday, 20th November 2018 at the Masonic Hall, Bruntcliffe Road, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0QG at 7.00 p.m.

Brethren I have thoroughly enjoyed putting together my first Charity Newsletter and I trust you have found at least some of the content of interest.

If you would like to discuss any aspect raised in the Newsletter, your PCA’s, Area Managers and I will be more than happy to speak with you.

With kind and fraternal regards

W Bro. Michael J Holmes
Provincial Grand Charity Steward
