Light Blue Clubs

16/5/2020

Light Blue clubs came into existence in 2007 as a result of an initiative in London where young Masons met at the Connaught Rooms as a social group. This became known as "The Connaught Club".

We have had young Mason's groups in this Province, in one form or another, since 2008. These groups have flourished across the country to the extent that national conferences are now held, with attendees from every Province.
In 2019 we sent five representatives to represent our Province, one from each area, accompanied by W. Bro Marcus Greenwood.
Our Provincial Grand Master was also present, as a guest speaker, to deliver a talk about "Solomon".

Initially, we had a very relaxed attitude to young masons groups allowing them to meet as and when they wished under whatever name they wanted. As a result of seeing how other Provinces were taking forward their own clubs, the PGM instituted a new initiative in this Province.

"Yorkshire West Riding New and Young Masons Clubs" is the Provincial umbrella and support body for all
Light Blue, Goose & Gridiron, Brothers Breakfast Clubs and Rough Ashlar Groups etc. It came into existence in February 2020 to set up a formal strategy and constitution for the running of groups across the five areas of the Province and is led by W. Bro Marcus Greenwood who reports directly to the Provincial Mentor.

The ethos is to bring New and Young Masons together to meet socially, to help with learning and development and to share ideas, experiences and develop best practices related to Freemasonry. It is also a forum to meet socially, debate Masonic issues, become better informed and enjoy like-minded Men's Company.

There are currently around twenty such groups meeting across the Province with a new Light Blue Club
just recently being formed in the Skipton, Craven and Keighley area.

Although the Yorkshire WR NYMC will operate under the Provincial banner, it will not interfere with the day to day running and formation of the clubs but will be available through the Provincial Lead for help, guidance and support.

Details of area contacts and a diary of events are available from the Provincial Lead for interested new and young masons or potential new Freemasons.

Personally I'm disappointed by this article. I find the language patronising, the majority of the images are from NYMCs outside of the Province and the article does nothing to make NYMCs sound appealing.

Outside the images, i feel like im missing something from your comment.

I dont see the patronising aspects and the description aims to cover all the groups within the NYMC and so is generalised.

This isn't to cause an argument, i'd like to be able to see your side as well for a balanced view.

Prior to COVID-19, I'd been working alongside Ed Sissling and also Tim Brooksbank to get a "Goose & Gridiron" group off the ground in the Bradford & District area. We had 4 really successful evenings and some of the best feedback we had related to brand new or prospective members who attended and who were really enthused by the camaraderie and the social side of Masonry. Our events are pretty informal; we try to meet in an old pub with some interesting history behind it and which serves a good pint. There's usually some food on (pie & peas, etc.) and Masons / Non-Masons are welcome. We organised a fantastic day trip to Appleby with another local G&G group last summer and our next outing was going to be a curry night with talk from Tim on why you should join Freemasonry. We're by no means the first and hopefully not the last group to set up.

One thing keeping me going through this whole COVID-19 situation is the idea of getting our next G&G events back up and running!

The Leeds Light Blues are a New & Young Masons Club, for newer and prospective Freemasons within the City of Leeds.

The Club is focused on enhancing individual masonic experiences, in respect to development and brotherhood.

We have a bi-monthly social gathering, which will continue when it is safe to do so. We also have educational events and plan to host further events once lockdown is over. In the meantime, we have a weekly podcast (which can be found in the link below or on all major podcast platforms) and regularly host online masonic lectures, for your enjoyment.

Though a 'Light Blues Club' we welcome brethren of all ages and we frequently welcome brother guests from further afield! You can find more information about us on Facebook & Twitter (links below). You can also contact secretary@lightblues.co.uk for more information about the club or joining us.
