W. Bro. Anthony William John Worcester, PPJGW 9th November 1935 - 14th July 2020

W. Bro. Worcester was initiated into Goderich Lodge No. 1211 on 1st May 1967 and installed as its Master on 31st March 1980. He fulfilled all his Offices in the Lodge with dignity and distinction and was a true example to his fellow brethren.

He was awarded a Certificate commemorating his 50 Years in Freemasonry at a Regular Lodge meeting held on 15th May 2017.

W. Bro. Tony was Goderich Lodge’s most senior Subscribing Past Master and was a stalwart member, maintaining a regular attendance until recent health problems made it difficult. His enthusiasm for freemasonry was matched by his knowledge and wise counsel and the members will be eternally grateful for his outstanding contribution to the wellbeing of Goderich Lodge.

He was also a member of the Leeds and District Lodge of Installed Masters No. 7918 and Headingley Lodge No. 2608, and was a founding member of the Rugby Football Lodge No. 9811.

Tony was also a Companion in the Royal Arch, having been Exalted on the 9th of February 1970. He never progressed to be a Principal, but served a total of 12 years as its Scribe E.

Outside of Freemasonry, Tony was a successful businessman, being head of a Leeds based prestigious construction company and a lead figure of a number of sporting organisations.

Above all, he was a genuine family man, he was married to his wife Alvena for 60 years and they have a son Paul and a daughter Lisa, who all supported him in his masonic journey.

W. Bro. Tony was a much loved and well respected man who will be sadly missed but never forgotten.

W.Bro Tony was a man whose commitment to masonry and our lodge in particular, was a guiding light for so many of us. Never scared to innovate change where he thought it would improve our lodge and was an inspiration to us "junior" brethren. A senior brother, a gentleman and a leader, we will all miss him very much.
May God look after you now just as you truly deserve to be looked after, having achieved so much in your time here with us. Our thoughts and Prayers are now with Alvena and family.

I will always be grateful to Tony for the way he welcomed me into Goderich Lodge as a joining member. He gave good advice and guidance and was very supportive of me. I feel I have lost a dear Brother, Companion and Friend. We had good times times together in the Lodge and at social events. I will miss you Tony, but the memories will stay forever. Rest in peace.

Tony was a lovely man, a true gentleman and a true mason, He always had a good word for you, a smile on his face and happy to have a good laugh. He would stop and chat, whether that be in the Pub at Horsforth cricket club or at a masonic meeting. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, and the world will be much poorer without him. My thoughts and prayers and sincere condolences to Alvena, Paul and the rest of the family.

Tony was a big man and a big Mason.
An inspiration to us all, and was particularly helpful and supportive to me in both my private and masonic life. He will be sadly missed, never forgotten, and those wise words of counsel will stay and linger on for ever.
Thank you Tony for everything. Thoughts are with Alvena and the family.
Rest in Peace Brother

W.Bro A.W.J.Worcester (Tony) was a much respected and well known Mason not only in Goderich Lodge No1211 but also in the Province. He was a Gentleman and a true Mason with a big heart. Tony was the Senior Past Subscribing Past Master of Goderich Lodge No 1211 and was held in high respect and esteem by all the Brethren.
In 1981 W. Bro Bernard Collier proposed and Tony Seconded by Proposal into Freemasonry and we have been close colleagues and friends ever since. Over the last 39 years we have had many happy and enjoyable occasions in the lodge and at the weekends away.
My thoughts and prayers are now with Alvena, Paul and all the family.
Tony you will be sadly missed but never forgotten. Rest in Peace.
