Appointments to and Promotions in Grand Rank
W. Bro Robert I.G. Cole
Promoted to Past Senior Grand Deacon
Robert, who is 54 years old, was initiated into Freemasonry at Spen Vale 4515 in January 1995 and joined Amphibious Chapter in December that year. It was at a Lodge social event that he met his wife, Tonya, so Freemasonry provided him with more than brotherly love! They were married in 1999 and have two boys; Thomas, aged 16 and Oliver aged 12.
Robert is a barrister, practising from Broadway House Chambers in Leeds and specialising in matrimonial finance; he is the Head of the Family Team there. He also sits as an arbitrator.
Robert’s Masonic career has seen him occupy the Chair of King Solomon four times. He was appointed as Provincial Registrar in 2008, holding that office until 2011, when he was then promoted and appointed as Provincial Senior Warden.
Robert was appointed as Past Assistant Grand Registrar in 2013 and has been promoted to Past Senior Grand Deacon after his appointment to Assistant Provincial Grand Master in February this year.
Robert has served on the Appeals Court panel at Grand Lodge since 2013 and was the co-opted legal advisor to the board of West Riding Masonic Charities Limited from August 2014 until his retirement in January 2020.
His only other passion aside from his wife, family and Freemasonry is Huddersfield Town. In that respect, he says that every man must have some crosses to bear but it’s a pity Town can’t practice their crosses better!
