You should by now have seen the statement issued jointly by the Provincial
Grandmasters in both Craft and Mark Masonry and the Grand Superintendent in Chapter committing the Almoners’ teams in each organisation to work with one another to maximise the Assistance available to our brethren. The other connected orders are also using their resources to assist in this process. Jointly we are increasing the support available to lodge almoners and giving advice on how lodges can create communication networks using the internet and services such as Skype and WhatsApp so they can monitor the well-being of their isolated and vulnerable members. Additionally, staffing of the confidential helpline (0344 902 0220) is being expanded, and we hope to be able to continue to offer a response to enquiries within 24 hours, but please remember that this is not permanently manned, and whilst our volunteers will always do their best, this may not always prove possible. Unless you are concerned about confidentiality issues, you should in the first instance approach your lodge almoner, (or designated acting almoner), who will be able to redirect your request to the appropriate person. The MCF helpline (0800 035 60 90) remains open but will not, as in previous times, be continuously manned. Again, MCF are aiming to provide a quick response, are clearing the voice mail system regularly throughout the working day, but dependant on increased demand this may be adversely affected. This Website will be updated on a regular basis, but In the interim the best advice available is that being issued by the government which is available at: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus |
To list the Lodge Almoner's many jobs needs more than one web page!
To summarise, his job is maintaining the pastoral care of Lodge members and their families by keeping in regular contact. This ensures members know where to turn in times of need and feel comfortable doing so.
The Almoner's Job is also to help recognise and fight loneliness, to resolve the problem before it gets out of control. This includes maintaining contact with widowed partners.
The Lodge Almoner also keeps the members of the Lodge updated on sick or invalid Brethren or dependant’s circumstances at frequent intervals.
