A Yorkshire charity that supports sufferers of a life-threatening lung condition has been awarded a £4,000 grant from the Freemasons.
The financial support will allow Bedale-based Cystic Fibrosis Care to continue delivering essential services and equipment, practical help and support to children and adults, their families and Specialist Care Centres. The funding has come courtesy of the Freemasons Province of Yorkshire West Riding’s Provincial Grand Master’s Fund, after being nominated by the members of Loyalty Lodge, which meets at Castle Grove Masonic Hall, in Headingley, Leeds. Each year the fund distributes £200,000 to good causes around the Province, which is based on the old West Riding, geographically ranging from Sheffield in the South to Ripon in the North. All hardship requests received by Cystic Fibrosis Care are referred by social workers, medial consultants and Cystic Fibrosis consultants. The largest Cystic Fibrosis paediatric and young adult care centre in Yorkshire is based at Leeds General Infirmary, which is where the majority of hardship requests come through. With Covid-19 stretching many Cystic Fibrosis sufferer’s family budgets, the charity is providing travel passes to enable parents to visit patients in hospitals. Fridges have also been purchased and supplied to enable patients in distressed circumstances to store medication correctly. The charity has also funded the services of a specialist child psychologist for a patient who is not coping well with lockdown. At the start of the pandemic, The Freemasons of The Province of Yorkshire, West Riding swung into action and initiated a Covid-19 fund for charities/good causes etc. doing work in the community during the pandemic. An initial grant of £2,000 from this fund was match-funded by the Masonic Charitable Foundation.
