Freemasons in Harrogate have funded a defibrillator for a town centre community centre.
The finances, secured by members of Harrogate & Claro Lodge from the Provincial Grand Masters Charity Fund, will be used by St George’s Community Centre on Mornington Terrace, to purchase the life-saving device.
The centre is used by groups and organisations within Harrogate, Starbeck, Knaresborough and the surrounding villages, with wide ranging age and physical abilities, so it is essential that equipment such as a defibrillator is available for use in an emergency.
Harrogate & Claro Lodge charity steward John Birkenshaw said: “It’s great to be able to support local community groups and the purchase of this defibrillator may well save someone’s life one day.”
St George’s Community Centre secretary Chris Battersby said: “This is a truly wonderful gesture by the Harrogate & Claro Freemasons Lodge, at a time when our Community Centre has never been busier.
“We will train somebody from each group who use our facilities so that in an emergency the defibrillator can be deployed successfully and save a life”.
