Teddies for Loving Care (TLC)

TLC is a National Masonic initiative aimed at comforting children in distress when visiting the Accident and Emergency department or Trauma centre of a hospital.

The scheme in the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding is supported and funded by WRMCL and the Freemasons of the Province.

The scheme, launched in December 2008, was initially introduced at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, and then rolled out to hospitals across the Province.

We now supply 19 children’s A & E departments and Trauma centres throughout Yorkshire, West Riding. At the discretion of the nursing staff, a teddy is given to a child, assisting staff to relax and reassure that child in what for them is a very frightening and unfamiliar environment. This calmer state enables nursing staff to make a quicker diagnosis and administer treatment.

Children take the Teddy home (complete with sticking plaster, plaster cast or injections!)

We regularly receive letters of thanks from parents, grandparents and nursing staff on how a TLC Teddy has helped calm a traumatised child.

‘Teddies for Loving Care’ has been an outstanding Masonic success, with more than 100,000 teddies already distributed throughout Yorkshire, West Riding and over two million Nationally.

The Provincial Grand Master’s Fund - Reaching out into our communities

The Provincial Grand Master’s Fund was created in 1987 to enable West Riding Masonic Charities Limited to make grants to non-masonic community organisations and charitable institutions in the Province of Yorkshire, West Riding.
Local Freemasons can choose, by ballot, to sponsor a suitable project for a registered charity or other worthy causes within their community.
There are two types of grants available:

Major Grants
are considered in March and awarded in May annually.  The grant aims to make a significant difference to the organisation and its project.
While there is an opportunity to provide a single grant of £100,000 each year, it is more usual to see the total sum shared by a small number of applicants.

Minor Grants
can be applied for throughout the year and will be considered at the PGM’s quarterly Fund meetings.

Since its formation, the Fund has made more than 3300 Minor Grants and 64 Major Grants with a value more than £3,670,000

Applications for grants from the PGM's fund should be submitted to the Fund Administrator.  For further information, please click the info button below.
